What is the Optimal Arm Project?

As sports performance and recovery specialists, we are seeing more and more shoulder and elbow injuries in rotational sports such as baseball and football.  The Optimal Arm Project is AMP's answer to this problem, and is an all-access pass to our systematic and science backed approach of building powerful, injury resilient throwing athletes. The OAP encourages proper mechanics, improved posture, balance and endurance that will lead to improved arm strength and consistency, helping you reach your maximum potential on the field. 

Who is the Optimal Arm Project for?

The Optimal Arm Project is great for throwing athletes of a variety of ages and skill levels.  First, you will undergo a thorough evaluation to determine if you qualify for the rigorous training program that comprises the OAP.  Then, we tailor the throwing aspect of the program to fit your needs, whether that be rehabilitating an old injury, improving mechanics, increasing arm strength and speed, AMP performance coaches will guide you down a path appropriate for you.

OAP Program Overview:

Total session time for the OAP is 75 minutes per session. The first portion of the session will focus on functional mobility, stability, balance and rotational strength with the AMP Athletic Performance Staff.  The latter portion will focus on shoulder strength and stability in the throwing motion by utilizing over and under weighted balls as well as technique drills.

Session Breakdown:

15 min: Shoulder & Core Stability

10 min: Dynamic Warm Up/ Agility

10 min: Rotational Power

with Baseball or Football Skill Coach:

25 min: Weighted Ball Drills

20 min: Skill Work Stations

- (Mound Work/ Drills for Pitchers)

- (Footwork, Towel Drills)

- (QB Drills)

10 min: Talk w/ Mobility/Specific Correctives & Next Session Preview

2015 OAP Results:

The 2015/16 OAP was a huge success.  Everyone in the program made gains in throwing velocity, and not 1 athlete sustained an injury during the 2016 season.  Athletes who had previously been unable to throw due to pain, had healthy, productive spring seasons!  Here are some of the results from last year...

  • AVG. Velocity Gain = 6 MPH

  • Max Velocity Gain = 11 MPH in 9 weeks
  • Number of Injuries During Competitive Season = 0
